People come to Sausalito from around the world or just across Bay from San Francisco and other neighboring cities. Many are not quite sure what to do when they get here. So, to enrich their experience, and provide them with something beside a map of the area, we are making every effort to provide visitors with a diversity of activities and resources.
Sausalito’s rich maritime history is most definitely alive on its waterfront. In fact, a good part of this historical litany has recently been captured in a new book entitled the Sausalito Wooden Boat Tour, which was written, illustrated and photographed by Victoria Colella. This new book, with its captivating stories and pictures, serves as a great guidebook, a unique gift and memorable keepsake.
This fine book also serves the purpose of sharing Sausalito’s great history with locals as well as all who visit this picturesque international seaport from around the world. From the makeshift dwellings found at Gate 6, which were created from discarded “sinkers”, to the one-design class bird boats found only in the San Francisco Bay, the Sausalito Wooden Boat Tour leads people on an image packed journey through time.
There is good reason why the Richardson Bay Maritime Association and the Classic Yacht Association have come forward to sponsor this book. It has merit, not only as a self-guided historical tour of the Sausalito waterfront; it also promotes interest in the art of wooden boat building, design, and adventure.
This book captures the spirit of Sausalito’s rich maritime history, craftsmanship and creativity. The Sausalito Chamber of Commerce, like boat enthusiasts throughout the Bay Area, highly recommend Sausalito Wooden Boat Tour.
